Sure, my original One Sentence post will actually turn ten next year, but this site officially launched five years ago today, when I announced it on Mefi Projects, exactly three months after registering the domain, less than a month after Twitter’s official launch, and barely a month before the birth of my daughter.

It’s been a fun five years, with over 100,000 submissions coming through (a mere 4% of which have actually been accepted for the site). I’ve got some interesting stuff lined up that hopefully I’ll be able to write about soon.

Thanks for being a One Sentence reader/contributor. Thanks for sticking around, submitting great stories, and just generally being an awesome group of people.

I made a site for people to make me rich by submitting one sentence stories for me to publish in a book without sharing any of the revenue.

Just to set it straight for anyone who may be thinking the same thing: it’s been almost three years and there’s no book yet. There may be someday, but there’s not right now. And, trust me, ain’t no one getting rich here.

Plus, if you don’t like the idea of your sentence possibly someday winding up in a book that may be sold: you can either a.) submit your sentence and e-mail me to let me know you don’t want it in a book (as the terms and conditions state) or b.) not submit your sentence here. Those both sound pretty reasonable to me.

Secondly, the story had multiple sentences.  One of the several day that I get like that.

Yet, something compelled me to run the submission through Google Translate.  And that, friends, is what I want to share with you:

When I was 6 years, my father drove me home to put my boots on your fish tank water. With teary eyes waited 5 minutes in front of the door with my giraffe rag in one hand and a picture of my mother and giraffe in the other. I never even went to watch their fish, until yesterday, smoking reefer in the living room carpet was on fire …

Now I kinda’ wish I had approved it…
